I started out in music as a drummer’s roadie (Mike Baldry) in 1980 at the age of 14 and instantly wanted to play, so I bought an second-hand original Olympic four-drum kit for £75 and started to make lots of noise!

I formed bands for fun with schoolmates, practising next door in a disused billiard room in Dereham. Eighteen months later I answered an advert in the window of Cookes’ music shop (Norwich) for drummer with Norwich rock band ‘Bronx’. Having passed the audition, the first gig was at Whites nightclub in Norwich. We started late as there was a big argument between the management and other band members as I was too young to be in there! We played eventually.

The band later changed their name to ‘Zipcode’ but disbanded soon after.

I have been fortunate enough to play in all styles of bands and music and have met some great musicians, singers and characters, some no longer with us, some fondly remembered and some best forgotten! After around 27 years of playing I can honestly say I still get that buzz when I’m loading up for a gig, when that stops, so will I!
